Question

How can I make NFS work better/faster in OnApp?

Environment

OnApp 5.x, 6.x

Answer

NFS should be mounted by using NFSv3 in OnApp.

Other things to adjust include the rsize and wsize parameters, async writes, and the number of NFS threads on the NFS server. The following link can help you determine which values to use in your setup:

Additional Information

There is no significant advantage of using NFSv4. Incremental backups are very slow if the storage destination is mounted via NFS. The performance of small files suffers in network file sharing protocols due to the latency.
